As we come into the cold part of the year it has become impossible to not think of the many people in our area, who are homeless and spend much of their days and nights miserably cold. How can we help? How can we bring warmth to these people, both spiritually and physically? The Hot Chocolate Ministry was born just two short weeks ago. Since then, we have prepared and served meals at the shelter's soup kitchen on two Saturday nights, in which we had the opportunity to talk to some of the homeless and gain knowledge of how we can help them. Along with the meals, we have brought many blankets, coats, hats, etc. and the residents at the shelter were very happy to receive them. We have committed to serving a meal on the 4th Saturday of every month. Each month we will be doing a differently themed donation drive. For example, the month of December we are requesting cold weather items. We are also hoping to be able to provide each resident a new, wrapped Christmas present. In addition to the work we are doing at the shelter, every Thursday we will be driving to areas that homeless congregate to pass out hot chocolate and Panera Bread pastries (they have been so gracious to donate for this cause). It is our sincere hope that Jesus love, grace and mercy shines from this ministry, that these people will take comfort in the warmth of a hot cup of chocolate and be filled with the warmth of Jesus' love. Please pray for this ministry. If you are interested in helping, feel free to contact me!

I would be amazing if you could contact a knitting or crochet group in the area and see if they could make scarves and hats! Many of them would love to help a great cause like this!!! Just an idea!

Great idea Kinzie!!! I will look into the crochet groups. We had great success on our first outing as the Hot Chocolate Ministry yesterday. It was quite warm so we passed out bottles of water with scripture taped to them, as well as cookies donated by Panera Bread. Was happy to run into some of the residents we had met at the shelter while serving food and hearing some good news about some of the people getting jobs and apartments. Garfield, one of the men at the shelter is currently looking for employment and has been approved for housing but has to find an apartment the housing committee will approve. His bike is all sorts of broken down and he made the comment that Santa might bring him a bike for Christmas. By word of mouth, we were able to get him a bike which we will be surprising him with tomorrow! God is so good (btw, Garfield was sitting reading his bible at a picnic table when we approached him). Please continue to pray for this ministry.
