A group of us are getting together to start Soup Kitchen Saturdays and a Hot Chocolate Ministry. Basically, one Saturday a month we are committed to preparing and serving a meal to the residents of the homeless shelter in downtown Jacksonville. In addition we are in the planning process of starting a hot chocolate ministry, driving around Jacksonville to the known area where the homeless gather and handing out hot chocolate, snacks and donated items like clothing, blankets, hygiene products. Though all of this we hope to show Jesus' love and light to them. Last night, we met a man named Ramone who is a homeless vet. He has an audition for a church band this morning at 9am. Please pray for him and please pray for The Lord's guidance as we reach out through these ministry opportunities. Thanks and blessings to all

Wow, those sound like some fabulous outreach opportunities. Feel free to request donations on here. I can set up a category for outreach projects where others can find a place to donate items or request them!

Shelly thanks for the support. As far as donations go, I know the shelter is always accepting blankets, cold weather clothing like hats, scarves, gloves and coats as well as hygiene products. These are items that we will be delivering to the shelter/soup kitchen on our Soup Kitchen Saturdays. We are also planning on keeping similar items in our vehicle while driving around with the Hot Chocolate Ministry. I am looking for a large drink cooler (like the big yellow/red) ones to hold hot cocoa in. If you are able to collect such items, I would be thrilled to come and pick them up

Amy, I think that the Hot Chocolate Ministry is an amazing idea! Just so they know someone cares about them and their well being. It would be awesome to start this is other places as well. I believe that God blesses us everyday with little acts of kindness... To others it could be huge! Thank you for having such an amazing heart and sharing it with us! I will keep my eyes out for the things you need for your Ministry and I will let you know!!!

URGENT!!! We just got another opportunity to serve down at the soup kitchen this Saturday. Coincidentally (as in not so coincidental at all, thank you God) our church is having a Thanksgiving meal that day and we will be serving left over turkey dinner to the residents at the shelter, yum. I am hoping to take as many coats, blankets, hats, gloves as possible...can you please pray for the community to pull together and help keep our homeless warm?
